Where Were You?

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York.

The Guardian (UK) has asked readers what they were doing when they first heard about the 9/11 attacks and you can read their memories here.

What were you doing?

Peter and I were in Rome - we were living in London so not as flash as it sounds! It was mid afternoon and we were in a shop looking at sunglasses. Hey, I'm sure we'd done something cultural in the morning and we were in Rome.

The optician came out and was waving her arms madly and talking like only the Latin can. We started talking with her and between some bad Italian (mine) and much better English (hers), she told us 'the two towers/airplane/boom...very bad'. We thought it was some type of accident and probably not that bad.

We decided to head back to our hotel and got there just as the second tower was about to fall. It was horrifying and quite unbelievable. We sat glued to what was unfolding.

So many lives changed in so many ways.

Have a lovely day enjoying your friends and family. Love to all of those for whom '9/11' has changed their lives.
