I Just Smile...

I love a beautiful entrance hall and every time I look at this one, I just smile.

Home is important to me.  I love that feeling of walking through the front door and knowing I'm 'home'. In our past lives (pre children), Saturday night used to be the big party night, but now, the perfect Saturday night for me is good food and wine, at home, with Pete and the girls. For the girls, Saturday night means 'movie night' with a bowl of popcorn. Pete cooks a lovely meal and it's just a special, calm time of week, in our family home, together.

So, to me, a simple, calm entrance is perfect. I love the simplicity of this one, by designer Meg Braff; the flooring is simply beautiful and something about the restraint of colour and fabulous scale, well it just makes me smile.

I hope you like it too x.

Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen, MBE, has recently released her new book, 'Kelly Hoppen Ideas: Creating a home for the way you live'.

Kelly Hoppen was my first major design idol when I was living in London. She encapsulated that whole minimal yet opulent style that was so late '90s/early '00s.  I have all her books as they are so enjoyable to read - they're so much more than pretty pictures.  The writing style is so readable and the content so practical and usable and I'm certain this one will be no different.

I'll let you know soon, because I'm off to order my copy at the Book Depositoryhere.  It's GBP 21.57 with free worldwide delivery.  Kiwi readers, that's a bargain!

As with Kelly's previous books, the US release has a different cover, and in this case different title even, to the UK Edition; in the US the book has been released as Kelly Hoppen Interiors and looks like this:

or this, depending on what you read!

Did I mention that Kelly's mate, Victoria Beckham provides the forward? Will let you know...x.

That's It!

You know when you've been looking for that perfect fabric, and nothing's quite right?  Then one day you stumble across something and you realise that you've struck gold...Alan Campbell's Meloire Reverse in Inca Gold, in this case.  Don't you just love it?

'It' is the yellow that's gotta go on the sofa in our living room:

I have looked at several yellow/gold designs.  None of them have hit the spot like this.  I found these pics on Heather Clawson's blog, Habitually Chic, here.

Heather took them when she was at the Soho Beach House in Miami, the Martin Brudnizki (bow now please) designed hotel I wrote about recently.

The cushions are in Jungle Green Java Java by China Seas, also at Quadrille (and Annie Loveridge Interiors, might I add).

I plan to use Suncloth ground (acrylic fabric) to have the design printed on, to stand up to a dog, two kids and a husband anyone else who might think that tomato ketchup and soft furnishings go together.  I want this sofa to look good but it has to be functional and usable too.  I don't want to be fussing every time the husband the kids eat on it, which is just reality right? It is a 'living' room, not a parlour!

Am too excited...I'll leave you with these pics, because I love them!

There it is...right at the back!

PS - We survived the birthday party.  14 8 year olds and torrential rain! Actually, Pete was the star, rallying the kids.  I hid worked diligently in the kitchen.  The girls turned the living area into a restaurant, decorated their own t-shirts and made pizza to serve to their parents when they came over for a drink at the end.  Pizza with pesto, pineapple, rosemary and salami anyone?

Happy Birthday Arabella

My beautiful baby is 8 today!

I am going to sound awful, but I would have to say I found the preschool years so hard and tiring - the first 5 years felt like 15 - but now the years are running away on me.  I know everyone says it, but I can't believe my little baby is 8.

Arabella rocked into this world upside down, bottom first and has done things her own way ever since.

Arabella (2 hours old) with Dad

She loves bunny:

'Bunny Rock' at the Grandparents' farm

dressing up :

Off to Ruby's Snow Party (snowman, right?!)

Am pretty certain this was not a dress up party!

Not impressed at mum's attempt at Princess Leia

and her little sister:

Yes, they do have the same father!

So happy birthday my darling girl, from Mummy, Daddy and Lily.  We love the fact you stuck to your guns wanting the blue bike (not the white that Dad and I preferred)!  Be you my darling Boo, because you're lovely.

Happy Weekend x.

Why is coffee just so damned good?  Why, when I read those healthy living plans and they say 'no coffee' do I chuckle and think "not gonna happen...ever?"

Why is the i-Pad that I so scoffed, so fantastic?  Why are there so many cool games on there that the kids love and nag for constantly?  I, of course, am above the games; I just love the functionality it gives to my business (Angry Birds anyone)???

And who said it was fair to launch the i-Pad 2...Thinner, Lighter, Faster?  And who asked for my daughter's permission to help create these?

The i-Pad Smart Cover in pink, orange, green and turquoise, amongst others.  I am so not showing Little Miss 6 these.  The kids already think i-Pads grow on the i-Pad tree in our back garden, to the right of the invisible pool!

Why do certain wines give one a really bad headache even when one has only had a glass...maybe two?  Huh?

Gosh, I sound grouchy but I'm actually having a happy day and hope you are too.  All is good in Design Land.  Just had these things going through my well as that headache.  Happy Days x.

Oooooh No...

Remember this vase?

The Michael Geertsen for Muuto, Closely Separated Vase that I posted my love for last December.  Well it's on the ACHICA promotions list for today (here)...GBP 59.00 instead of the RRP of GBP 89.00.  Bargain!

Don't you think it's just the universe telling me something?  I was only introduced to ACHICA on Friday and already, my number one 'want' item is glaring at me?  Even Mr Loveridge saw this on my screen last night and said "I like that - it would be great behind the sofa you have been talking about covering yellow for, like ever are getting reupholstered."

I personally hold you, Megan and Katie, wholly responsible for my addiction. That's why I'm using one of your addresses to ship my loot.  Ha ha!

Still love ya though x.

Massimo Vitali

Vecchiano North (1999)

Remember the Manhattan apartment of Kiane von Mueffling (you'd remember the name, right)?  The Vecchiano North artwork (above), was on the living room wall (below) and I thought it was beautiful, so I've just looked up the website of the photographer, Massimo Vitali, and wow, is his work fantastic!   There's a whole 'beach' series, which you can find on Vitali's website (complete with the sounds of crashing waves)!

It's raining here today in Auckland, so I shall just enjoy these pics (and the sound of those waves) x.

Orla Kiely Storage Boxes

My lovely friend in London, Megan, has just sent me a link to ACHICA, 'the members only luxury lifestyle store' based in the UK.  Don't be scared, with an email address and password, I am now a member without having to sell any children.

Megan warned me that our other friend, Katie (we have all known each other since we were 10...isn't that cute?), has become quite an addict.  She also informed me not to get too attached as they don't send to New Zealand. Ha ha, Meges....I've got your London address though haven't I sweetie???

ACHICA is an online homewares store where 'members can indulge in an array of private sales, each open for just a short while.'  There is a different set of promotions each day, with members being advised by email in advance of what will be appearing soon.

There is also a fantastic blog called ACHICA Living, from which I've taken some pics that caught my eye:

Ooooh, I do love Kevin McCloud, so here's another pic, just for me...

Lovely...but back to business...

Floral Trends

The Sunday Times' Pip McCormac has written about florals and Marks and Spencer Home's new range including this multi crochet flower cushion:

So many lovely things and I see that the promotions list on Monday includes Nina Campbell and one of my big faves, Muuto.

I am Annie Loveridge, and I think I, too, am an ACHICAholic.

Happy Weekend x.

I have just been reading about Robyn Cosgrove's new home (Vogue Living Australia Mar/Apr 2011), adjoining her showroom in Woollhara, Sydney.  I fell in love with the simplicity and style of her weekend home in VL several years previous.

Whenever I spot a truly beautiful rug in an Australian magazine, it is so often credited to Robyn Cosgrove Rugs.  Her latest collection, Alhambra, is inspired by the Moorish palaces found in the Alhambra region of southern Spain.  Aren't these gorgeous?

As much as I love the colours, the black and white would be so striking with furnishings in strong and vibrant colours.  Love it!

I Just Smile...

...whenever I see this picture:

An oldie but a goodie - Tory Burch's fabulous kitchen in her New York apartment.  Somehow, I feel this just shouldn't work - such a busy wallpaper with matching banquette seating in a bright colour, yet every time I see it, it catches my eye and my eye likes it!

The design is China Seas Arbre de Matisse Reverse (in a custom blue), from Quadrille Fabrics:

...which was also used to photograph the Tory Burch Spring 2010 collection:

If that's not doing it, have a look at the Tory Burch Lookbook.  Faaaabulous!
